After the for
Chevrolet glorious years 1955, 1956 and 1957 (with amongst others the Chevrolet
Bel Air) the firm had to come with something new. The 1958 Chevrolet
models were new in all aspects: the cars featured a new X shape chassis
with coil springs all round, the models were longer, lower, wider and
more luxurious. The cars were also given a more expensive appearance.
Buyers also had more choice regarding engines and transmissions. Also a
new top model was presented: the Impala. The Chevrolet impala was only
available as convertible and as a 2-door hardtop coupe. The Impala
hardtop coupe could be distinguished from the Bel Air coupe by it's
special windscreen, the different roof design, the rear lights and
different bright work such as the quasi air vent above the rear window. V8 engine |
