The Fiat Dino
Spider saw the light of day in the year 1966 and it was presented to the
public on the 1967 Turin Motor show.
This exquisite convertible was designed by Pinin Farina. In the year
1967 a coupe model followed designed by Bertone.
The Fiat Dino Spider and coupe are fitted with the aluminium V6 engine
of the Ferrari Dino which was constructed by Franco Rocchi. This engine is fitted with four overhead camshafts
and has a cylinder capacity of 1987 cc.
Ferrari had to build at least 500 Dino engines for the homologation of
their Formula 2 racing car. Production of the Ferrari Dino road
sportscar was not enough to reach the goal in short time so Ferrari
asked Fiat to help them out. Result was the birth of the Fiat Dino...
The Fiat Dino Spider is a very beautiful convertible, a compact balanced
appearance with sexy curves and with very appealing details. The
interior breathes a rich and sportive Italian atmosphere and features
excellent seats and a dashboard with perfect layout. Many gauges keep
the driver posted about all vital functions.
In the year 1969 the Ferrari Dino V6 engine was enlarged up to 2418 cc.,
the engine block was now constructed of cast iron instead of aluminium.
The same year the Fiat Dino was equipped with this more powerful engine
which featured an additional 20 horsepower and which was responsible for
a increase of the top speed with 10 km/h. Both Fiat Dino models were
built until the year 1973. In total 1583 Spider and
6.158 coupe models were built in seven years of production.
