In 1948 Jaguar boss Sir William Lyons surprised the whole world on the London Motor show including himself with the successful introduction of the Jaguar XK 120. The car was not only beautifully shaped, but also had fabulous driving qualities and last but certainly not least a brand new ‘straight six’ engine with double overhead camshafts.

The much-praised model, up to the XK 150, stayed in production until the beginning of the sixties. However the brilliant XK engine continued his life in the Jaguar E-Type, MKII up to
the XJ 6.
Europe already knew the pre-war BMW 328, but Jaguar left the continent behind her by selling more than 20.000 XK’s, which was one of the biggest successes in automobile history.
The excellent driving capabilities and reliable technique were proved during the many success on Le Mans and rallies i.a. with the famous NUB 120.
The successors of the XK 120 were the 140 and 150. I.a. rack and pinion steering and Dunlop disc brakes technically improved these models with servo assistance. The maximum power also increased due to a bigger capacity and more carburettors.*

The new models also got bigger bumpers and the body of the XK 150 is nearly completely renewed by using a panoramic windshield, a broader grille and fattened flanks. The XK 150 becomes the last model in a very successful series of beautiful, reliable and successful sports cars. The XK is already for decades a precious collectors item but above all a typical drivers car for gorgeous driving as appeared during our trial run.

Driving impression

Every classic car enthusiast will ever have driven in a Jaguar XK. Who drives these cars professionally knows that a perfectly restored XK 150 never disappoints. It qualifies the XK 150 and a top restoration that this drive became a revelation. Of course, the driving qualities were great and the acceleration of the 3.8L engine impressive, but what strikes the most is the fact that this car really drives like a new one, without any rattle or vibration. Most of the restored cars are not used afterwards and do not have the suppleness in shifting gears, breaking and steering. Driving this car is how the XK 150 was meant to be, which is a big compliment to the restoration company and confirms our statement that this must be one of the finest available.
