Ask a Lancia owner how are his Alfa Romeo’s and he will answer politely he only drives Lancia, but he will not be amused. Since Smiths-Veglia offers both Alfa and Lancia perhaps for that reason, we freely discovered resemblances like fabulous engineering of the engine, well constructed suspension and the same high road behavior. And as with Lancia, Alfa Romeo also spent many efforts to have their cars designed by well-known Italians like Bertone, Pininfarina, Touring and Zagato.

The general 1954 model of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint was famous for its Bertone design, lightweight and for its typical twin cam powerful small 4 cylinder engine. This famous engine would sustain more than 20 years. In 1959 Alfa Romeo ordered with Bertone the Alfa Romeo SS (Super Speciale). Being a new and highly esteemed design, this Bertone sports car even was produced by the Bertone manufactory itself in a small number of 1366 hand built partly aluminium cars.
